Atrial Fibrillation Project

A pilot heart rhythm project is being run in partnership with your general practice and East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The aim of the pilot is to check the heart rhythm of people who might be at a higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF) and to identify people who may have this rhythm that is currently not diagnosed as it often does not give rise to symptoms. If diagnosed treatment can begin, in turn reducing people's chances of developing complications.

Receiving this invitation does not mean that you have AF, but that we would like to check your heart rhythm without the need to attend your general practice or hospital.

What happens if I would like to take part?

Firstly, you will be asked to confirm that you have not already been told you have atrial fibrillation and also that you have access to a smartphone (modern mobile phone, full instructions will be given) to take part

You will then be offered free access to a new application (app) called FibriCheck, which helps identify potential AF in people. This means you will need access to a smartphone or be able to ask a family member / carer who has a smartphone to help.

How to Measure your Heart Rhythm Using the FibriCheck App
Hear from the Doctors who are taking part in the project

You will be asked to monitor your heart rhythm twice a day for 7 days using the FibriCheck App. FibriCheck will share your data with healthcare professionals at Ipswich Hospital, who will review the results of your heart health check.

Please note that this information will not be reviewed by your general practice.

You will not be contacted when no further investigation is required. Your FibriCheck report mentions "NO ACTION REQUIRED".

If further investigation is required, you will be contacted directly by Ipswich Hospital who will provide clear instructions on the next steps, which will include using a different device at home to gather more information. This device will be sent to you free of charge. You will then be contacted by one of the specialist clinical team to discuss the next steps which might involve taking medication.
